Our Story

In Its 3rd Generation

Grady’s is named after its founder Grady Spears. Grady (Pop) married Ouida Hayes (Mema) and they had two daughters. Grady served in the Merchant Marines from 1941 to 1945. During this time he began working in the galley with fresh seafood and started his cooking career. In 1945, he left the Merchant Marines and ran a bread route until 1946 when he went to work for the Houston Hotel in Dothan, Alabama. In 1949, Davis Tindell asked Grady to come to Graceville, Florida, and run the Circle Grill so Grady and Ouida and their two daughters moved to Graceville to operate the Circle Grill. They purchased the business and officially became the owners and operators of the Circle Grill in 1951 (and yes, there was a waiting line even then). In 1972, Grady sold the Circle Grill so that he and Ouida could retire. After five years of retirement, Grady and Ouida opened Grady’s Seafood in 1977 and owned and operated it until 1983 when they retired again and their daughter and son-in-law, Janet and John Watson, took over the business. In 1991, Janet’s son, Larry, and his wife, Sherri, returned to Graceville to help run the business. In 1996, Janet and John retired and their son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sherri Skipper, took over the business.
